A lifelong commitment to community service
by Rebecca Seymour
Katie Miller’s nonprofit work began when she was in middle school. Her mom spent most of her career working to raise funds for nonprofits in Waukesha County. As the child of a professional fundraiser, Katie “volunteered” to help with everything from stuffing envelopes to organizing special events.
With a BA in Communications and a Master of Science in Management (MSM), Katie has had the privilege of working with, for and on behalf of, a number of community organizations including United Way in Waukesha County, Carroll University, Hebron House of Hospitality, UW-Waukesha Foundation, YMCA at Pabst Farms, the Rogers Memorial Hospital Foundation, Oconomowoc Area Chamber of Commerce, Silver Streak, Shorehaven and the Friends of Oconomowoc Parks & Trails.
“I live by the saying ‘community is as community does.’ To me this is a reminder that everything that makes Oconomowoc such a special place depends on the contributions of time, talent and treasure of the people who enjoy it,” she explained.
Katie and her husband David moved to Oconomowoc from the Milwaukee area in 1997. Their daughters, Beth, 26, and Sydney, 24, were born in Oconomowoc and graduated from Oconomowoc High School.
Katie enjoys traveling to sunny destinations and exploring new places, time with a good book, restoring/flipping and building homes, volunteerism, and relaxing with family and friends. She can often be spotted helping at special events around the community.
“It is an honor to have had so many opportunities to work alongside the people and organizations that make our community stronger, healthier and more vibrant. I’m excited to serve the Oconomowoc Area Foundation and continue the legacy of so many who came before me,” said Katie.
